Message from Dan Brannen, the former Executive Director, American Ultrarunning Association
November 25, 2020
In recent years the American Ultrarunning Association (AUA) had stepped back from its original mission and had limited its activities only to two functions: The maintenance of an annually updated list of official USA ultra open and age-group national records, and serving as the home of the American Ultra Hall of Fame. At the end of 2020, AUA will be formally dissolved and these two ongoing projects will be taken over (and improved!) by two other organizations.
Actually, the maintenance of the USA ultra records archive has already been transferred to the MUT (Mountain/Ultra/Trail) Council of USATF and can be viewed on their website at usaultrarunning.com. I would like to thank Jay Hodde for maintaining those lists for many years for AUA, and Meghan Canfield for her leadership work in achieving the transfer and maintaining and improving the project for MUT.
Over the past few years AUA had informally devolved from an active representation and advocacy association to more of an administrative agency for just the two functions highlighted above. AUA’s reason for existence had really ceased to be, as explained on The American Ultrarunning Association History page.
